In the past year I've revived my interest in writing poetry as an outlet of expression about things I see or thoughts that inspire me. While this is not in itself reason enough to begin a blog (I have a notebook, after all), I did want a forum in which I could share the inspirations that come to me. While I enjoy writing poetry just as a hobby, it seems selfish and pointless to not share the products of my time and effort with others. I don't know if God will use what I have written to touch those who read these words, but I know he won't use my poetry if others never read it. I'm usually prompted to write poetry about things I read about or things that I see in the world around me. Sometimes I'll be reading and a quote or line of text will just send shivers down my spine, inspiring me to incorporate it into a poem (this is what happened in the poem "The Battle Cry"). My other source of major inspiration are the Psalms. While nowhere near the skill of the Psalmist, there are times after Confession or Mass or during prayer where I just feel the overwhelming urge to express what my soul is feeling. Anyway, I pray that, in some sense, God might use what I have written to touch you if it is his desire. It's all up to him, anyway. God bless and keep you.
